Researchers at National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) in Bangkok and Imperial College London (Department of Chemistry) in United Kingdom have studied the advancements of solid-state nanopores for the purpose of highlighting selected developments that will benefit scientists.
The 3rd Thailand – Korea Nanobiotechnology Joint Research Meeting opened this morning with Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai, NANOTEC Executive Director presenting the Opening Remarks. According to Prof. Sirirurg the meeting provides a venue for interaction and mixing between nanobiotechnology researchers that will create the research sparks that the local research community needs. Prof. Sirirurg gestured a symbolic comparison of the gathering to that of the late Steve Jobs push for human interaction and creativity at his Pixar Animation Studio in the USA.

To those of you not familiar with the term nanocomposite it means a matrix to which nanoparticles have been added to improve a particular property of the material (according to Understanding Nano.com). The applications of nanocomposites are endless from batteries to medical to sensors. At a recent NANO Talk session at NANOTEC in Thailand, Prof. Alois K. Schlarb of Composite Engineering, University of Kaiserslautern, Germany informed participants that research on nanocomposites have been on-going for the past 10 to 15 years. On January 14, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) announced The National Research Council Awards 2012 in which Dr. Rawiwan Laocharoensuk from NANOTEC Nanomolecular Sensor Lab was one of the recipients for the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award.
Dr. Rawiwan thesis entitled “Synthetic Metal Nanowires: Applications towards on-demand Reaction and Autonomous Motions” shows that multifunctional nanowires offers limitless integrated properties and multiple surface functionalization.
Pada sabtu 22 Desember 2012 kemarin, UKM U-Read (Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa Unsri Riset dan Edukasi) kembali menggelar aktifitas ilmiah di aula Teknik Bukit Universitas Sriwijaya. Dengan di motori oleh para pengurus hariannya, organisasi keilmiahan kampus ini membuka kelas eksklusif bagi peserta ‘Sekolah Intelektual Unsri’. Sekolah Intelektual Unsri adalah sebuah wadah konsolidasi pemahaman Intelektual dalam mengasah dan mengoptimalakan potensi mahasiswa di kampus. Kegiatan ini telah dilaksanakan dengan pertemuan awal di kampus Unsri (Universitas Sriwijaya) Indralaya pada 12 Desember 2012 lalu. Peserta yang di undang adalah mahasiswa-mahasiswi terpilih dari berbagai Fakultas yang ada. Dengan harapan, melalui kegiatan ini dapat menjadi batu loncatan prestasi kampus Unsri kedepan.
